On Saturday 5th April, the Rotary Club of Eastbourne was out in force in the Arndale Centre together with a medical team consisting of nurses (retired and working) and three Doctors who are all members of the Club. Many of the nurses are wives of Club members and have supported this event organised by Rotarian Barrie Gent since its inception 11 years ago.
Many more people are now being checked regularly by their family doctors but members and friends of the Rotary Club of Eastbourne were still able to check 203 blood pressures and found 6 who were referred to their G.P’s (2 urgently). This could prevent a stroke which is still one of the major causes of disability and death. It makes the day worthwhile.
At the same time club members and friends were able to talk to many people about Organ Donation – there is no age limit and one donor can help up to 8 people. Some signed up for the Organ Donor Register on the day but many took forms away so they could discuss with their nearest and dearest. It is important that close family are made aware of their wishes.
